Sooo, I can’t believe after many months of researching, planning,
preparing, saving..that the day has finally arrived where I have to pack my bag
and leave for my African Adventure (corny..but true)! So many past volunteers
have written blogs and it has been amazing (for myself) to read all about their
adventures and day-to-day life in Kenya and around the world, so I figured that
I would set up a blog for those who are interested in keeping up with what I’m
up to.
Just to give a brief overview of the next few days. I leave
Melbie tonight at the respectable time of 11:59pm and will be visiting the
wonderful city of Doha on my way to Nairobi. I arrive there about 8:30pm Melbie
time. From then I am flying directly to Kisumu (third largest city in Kenya, on
the North-Western fringe of Lake Victoria...you know that massive lake that the
Nile runs out of that we all leant about in Geography so many years ago!). I
arrive in Kisumu about 5:30pm Kenya time..which will be about 1:30am Thurs
morning...I expect to be looking fresh and feeling on top of my game ;). From
here I do an orientation and some other things, but I will write about that in
a few days. I will be arriving in Mutmubu (which btw does not exist on the
internet aside from a weather station outside of the blogging world), the
village I will be living in for 3 months, on Saturday. I will be travelling
with another volunteer all the way from Melbie, which is amazing!
Anywho, I will write again when I figure out how to acquire
internet without data roaming charges knocking off my money for the next few
years. I would just like the say a huge thank you to EVERYONE for all our
support in helping me organise, prepare and especially fundraise for my trip. I
have raised just over $1000 at the moment, which is going to go such a long
way! Thank you especially to my wonderful friends I have seen over the past few
days and your amazing words before I left, to my amazing family..who I know are
extremely worried about me getting eaten by an elephant...or something to that
degree J
and to my wonderful bf..without your support I don’t know how I would have
left. You guys are amazing...I will be in touch as soon as I can. Feel free to
post questions/responses on my blogs or on facey...I will need lots of friendly
contact when I am away...after all...I have to look after myself for real this
time!
Love you all, Lucy xxx.
All the best Lucy, I hope this amazing adventure you're embarking on brings you much joy and personal growth! Crico xo
